Agam Berger: "I Chose the Path of Faith."

Remnant of Zion

"I chose the path of faith, and in the path of faith I returned."

20-year old former hostage, Agam Berger, has been inspiring many with her unwavering faith in God. The young Israeli was kidnapped on Oct 7th with many of her squad. She was not released with them on January 25th, but days later on January 30th.

Stories from the women who were with her in captivity paint a picture of a girl full of faith in God.

She was known for resisting her captors demands that she complete forced domestic labor on Shabbat- doing her best to observe the holy day. She also refused non-kosher meat in an environment where food was never certain.

The girls did their best not to eat bread on Passover and tried to fast for Yom Kippur.

Many of the girls credit Agam and her strong faith in Hashem and commitment to Torah to helping them stay hopeful.

Today, in a statement, Agam said, "I chose the path of faith, and in the path of faith I returned."

Agam's mother was the subject of debate when days ahead of her daughter's release, she stated that if Agam were released on Shabbat, she did not want photos taken (doing so would violate Shabbat). It is clear that Agam's faith and Torah observant lifestyle was ingrained in her from a family who puts God first.

To the outside world, a commitment to Torah may seem silly or even harsh. But when one considers that so many commandments state that if one does not obey the Torah they put themselves at risk or can even cut of from the people of Israel, they can begin to understand why observance is so important to the religious Jewish population.

In the Torah, Hashem states that following the Torah is how one ensures "it will be well with you." The Torah is not just seen as a random set of laws, but a covenant, a ketubah (marriage contract). Faithfulness to its laws is seen as an outward expression of love for and trust in God.

Torah observance is seen as protection- a way to stay in covenant and under the wing of the Most High.

In the darkness and difficulty of being a hostage, captured by people who have hurt you and ended the lives of one's friends before their eyes, how much more would you depend on God and do everything it took to stay in covenant with Him?

It can be tempting when you live under the New Covenant, the B'rit Hadashah, to see those who observe the Torah as backward. Resist this. Understand and love for those doing their best to show dedication to God.

We thank God for His faithfulness in releasing so many hostages. We thank Yeshua, the Lion of Judah, for His unfailing love and providing salvation through His sacrifice. We pray that the Light and truth of who Yeshua is floods over Israel.

May God heal and restore the hostages to full health in every area. May they know Yeshua as Lord, Friend, and Healer.

Please continue to pray for Irael and the hostages.
