In the midst of Jewish Instagram being fraught with a battle between Democrat and Republican Jewish influencers arguing over which party would be better for the community and Israel, something unexpected happened.
On July 16th, Jewish senate hopeful Leora Levy led a prayer for the hostages at the Republican National Convention. The sight was a somber and shocking one as the Cuban-born Connecticut representative prayed aloud to a sea of bowed heads.
Messianic Jewish Israeli advocate Hananya Naftali shared a video.
The Jerusalem Times reported the events:
"The delegate to Donald Trump’s coronation was responding to a benediction led by Leora Levy, a Jewish Republican from Connecticut, to close out the first day of this year’s Republican Party convention.
Levy’s comments included one of the rare mentions of Israel on the convention’s first day, as she led a hushed and somber crowd in praying for the release of hostages abducted by Hamas on Oct. 7.
'O Lord our God, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, your eternal city, and for all the children of Abraham, we remember and pray for freedom for the hostages kidnapped and held so cruelly against their will,” Levy said. “Lord, please keep them in your sight and hasten the day of their freedom.'"
The prayer came a day before the release of a new photo of five female hostages from October 7th being from their early days of captivity. From left: Liri Albag, Agam Berger, Daniella Gilboa, and Karina Ariev. Naama Levy was in a separate photo and is not being kept with the rest of the girls.

Jewish Instagram is split with some saying the Democratic party is still an ally despite key members being vocal about wanting funding to Israel cut and openly support pro-Palestinian efforts.
Others, are calling for what is being called a Jexit: an exodus of Jewish people from the Democratic party the Republican.
Well-known Jewish advocate, Melissa Chapman, was recently interviewed by the NY Post in an article entitled, "Meet the Jewish Voters Turning Republican for the First Time."
"Melissa Chapman always considered herself a bleeding heart liberal — but she left the Democratic party after she claims it “betrayed” Jewish people.
'I’ve always been a Democrat, and I really believed that the Democrats were going to protect me, because I’ve done everything a good Democrat should do,” the 50-year-old Staten Islander told The Post. 'Then October 7th happened, and I was completely abandoned."
The Jewish community isn't going to make this decision together. People are going to have to vote from their values and conscience alone.
