Did You Know: Why Two Loaves?

Have you ever wondered why there are traditionally two loaves of challah on the Shabbat table?

The double loaves represents the double portion of manna the children of Israel were given on the day before Shabbat in the wilderness.

So they could rest on Shabbat and keep it holy, HaShem made twice as much manna, the bread of heaven, appear on the ground for them to gather. It was the only time they were allowed to gather manna for more than one day and miraculously, it did not spoil like manna did if ordinarily stored for an extra day. (She not 16:22 Exodus).

There is nothing ordinary about Shabbat. It exists in time and space set apart, blessed by the Most High.

May you experience the supernatural shalom of Shabbat as you meet Him in it. 🕊 It is a gift from HaShem to us.

“Therefore they said to Him, ‘What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ‘

Then Yashua said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of YHWH is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’

Then they said to Him, ‘Lord, give us this bread always.’

And Yashua said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’” - Yochanan (John) 6:30-35
